Agarwal and Pujara set the game for India

India captain Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to bat first.

India made two changes as KL Rahul, and Kuldeep Yadav came in place of Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma. Australia made two changes as well bringing in Marnus Labuschagne and Peter Handscomb in place of Mitchell Marsh and Aaron Finch.

Australia had a great start as Rahul was sent back for nine runs by Jos Hazlewood early in the innings.

Pujara joined Mayank Agarwal at the crease as the duo built a magnificent partnership of 116 runs. This put India in a stable position. Agarwal scored 77 runs off 113 balls before giving his wicket to Nathan Lyon.

After this, Pujara had a partnership of 54 runs with Kohli and 48 runs with Ajinkya Rahane. Kohli got a start but lost his wicket to Hazlewood for 23 runs while Rahane got out to a bouncer by Starc for 18 runs.

By the time Vihari joined Pujara in the middle, India's score was already 228 for 4. Vihari played some aggressive shots while his partner at the other end notched yet another hundred.

The pair countered the new ball nicely and made sure that their side doesn't lose any more wickets. At stumps on day one, India was in a position of solidity with 303 runs on the board with the loss of four wickets.
