South Africa made 303 in their second innings on the back of Quinton de Kock century. The Proteas had a lead of 77 runs in the innings after they made 262 runs and managed to bowl out the visitors for only 185 runs.

De Kock's century puts the Proteas in a strong position

South Africa started the day from 135 for 5 with de Kock and Amla at the crease. The partnership of 102 runs between the two batsmen had taken the Proteas to a substantial position, and de Kock took full advantage of that.

He counter-attacked the Pakistani quicks with the lower-order giving him some support.

Amla made a well-made 71 while Vernon Philander and Kagiso Rabada contributed with 14 and 21 runs respectively. De Kock brought his up fourth Test ton and finally got for 129 runs from just 138 balls.

South Africa lost their last three wickets for only one run but 303 on the board to go with 77 runs lead from the first innings seemed enough for them.

Faheem Ashraf and Shadab Khan picked three wickets each while other Pakistani bowlers took crucial scalps as well.

Chasing 381 runs, Pakistan openers Imam-ul-Haq (35 runs) and Shan Masood (37 runs) got off to a good start with 67 run stand. Both got out in a short space of time to Dale Steyn and Azhar Ali's bad form continued as he managed only 15 runs.

Asad Shafiq was solid at the crease guiding Pakistan to the end of day's play with an unbeaten 48. Babar Azam, batting on 17, will continue his partnership with Shafiq when the two resume on day four. Pakistan has an uphill task to chase, but at 153 for 3, they can feel they still have a chance.

India will play Australia in the 2nd One-Day International match on January 15, 2019. Australia won the 1st ODI. Rohit Sharma's 131 runs were not able to help India win the match.
