Kohli's bat talks but Australia have an edge

Ajinkya Rahane got out in the first over of the day, as Hanuma Vihari joined Kohli at the crease. Kohli brought up his 25th Test century in style and along with Vihari put on a 50 run partnership. Once Vihari was dismissed, Rishabh Pant came out and decided to attack the Australian bowlers.

Just before lunch, the Indian skipper was dismissed controversially after a brilliant knock of 123 runs. Pant tried his best to take India's total close to that of Australia's, but the tail-enders couldn't support him.

Pant made 36 runs while Nathan Lyon cleaned up India's tail wrapping the innings for just 283 runs.

Australia started their innings with 43 runs and built on it carefully. Aaron Finch retired after scoring 25 runs as he got hit by a ball on his thumb which injured him.

Marcus Harris hung on there for a while but got out for 20 runs as Shaun Marsh followed him.

Peter Handscomb and Travis Head didn't last long either. At stumps, Australia was 175 runs ahead and still have six wickets in their hands. Usman Khawaja was unbeaten on 41 while Tim Paine was not-out with eight runs.

Ishant Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah got one wicket each while Mohammad Shami chipped in with two wickets.
