Anderson rested for the third Test

England has opted to replace Sam Curran and James Anderson with Johnny Bairstow and Stuart Broad for the last Test of the series.

According to Cricbuzz, Bairstow who is coming back from an injury will bat at no.3. Curran has suffered a small injury which forced him out of the game, while Anderson has been rested.

Dinesh Chandimal has been ruled out of the third Test due to the groin injury which made him miss the previous Test as well. Akila Dananjaya will also miss this Test as he is expected to be in Australia in order to test his bowling action which was reported for a suspect action during the ongoing Test series.

21-year-old Nishan Peiris has been called up as Akila's replacement.

Pitch and weather report

The SSC has over the years prepared balanced pitches. There is always spin on offer, but batting isn't really that difficult on this track.

The weather forecast isn't the brightest for this Test. There might be some rain during the first couple of days, but this will help the bowlers to get some extra swing out of the pitch.
