Just when it seemed Pakistan would have it easy against England in the Lord's test match, Jos Buttler and Dominic Bess combined together to pull the hosts back to a respectable position. England ended the third day's play with the score of 235 for 6 in their second innings, with a lead of 56 runs against Pakistan.

Pakistan began the third day's play with the score of 350 for 8 in their first innings. The fast bowling Mohammads, namely, Amir (24 runs) and Abbas (five runs) couldn't last too long, as the latter fell to Mark Wood with Pakistan ending their innings at 363 all out.

Babar Azam, who got injured while batting on the second day couldn't come to bat and stayed retired out at 68.

England innings

England's second innings began with a deficit of 179 runs and in the most horrible way. Alastair Cook (one run) and Mark Stoneman (nine runs) fell in the first hour of play, leaving them at 31-2. Captain Joe Root (68 runs) and Dawid Malan (12 runs) combined for a 60-run partnership. Mohammad Amir, then removed Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow (zero runs) in the same over to leave England struggling at 91 for 4.

England further slipped to 110-6 after losing Ben Stokes(9 runs) and Joe Root in quick time. England was staring at an innings defeat at this point in time when the debutant Dominic Bess (55 runs not-out) joined the comeback man Jos Buttler (66 runs not-out) on the crease. Together they put up 125 runs unbeaten as England ended the day at 235 for 6, with a lead of 56 runs.

For Pakistan, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Abbas and Shadab Khan picked up two wickets each.
