If gulping down rainbow-coloured beverages isn’t your thing, then fret not! Goth lattes are here to help you kickstart your day in a weirdly wonderful way.

After introducing gin espresso cocktails, wine-infused and matcha latte into our lives, Instagram has brought forth the latest coffee trend of goth latte, a beverage that truly speaks to our inner Wednesday Addams.

Made with Activated Charcoal, the goth-inspired treat is unapologetically dark yet healthy and totally Instagrammable.

How is goth latte a healthy breakfast trend?

According to Brit + Co, a leading digital media company, activated charcoal has proven detoxifying and purifying properties, if consumed in the right quantity.

Thus the dark-hued latte has become an instant hit amongst beauty enthusiasts and health nuts alike.

What is activated charcoal?

Activated charcoal is charcoal made from coconut shell, wood, peat, coal or petroleum. The charcoal is then heated with a gas that creates internal pores and makes the charcoal highly absorbent.

Activated charcoal works by trapping toxins and chemicals in its porous surface. The charcoal has a negative electric charge that causes toxins and gas (which have a positive charge) to bond with it.

Other than flushing out toxins, activated charcoal is also used for curing hangovers, reducing cholesterol level, treating bile flow problems, teeth whitening, alleviate bloating and for treating mild infections and insect stings.

According to Mashable, goth latte has become a staple in countless coffee shops across the #UK and #Australia.

Here are some of the insanely pretty black beauties that are sweeping over Instagram:

How to make this yummilicious drink?

  1. Take a cooking pot and put all the ingredients (except espresso) in it.
  2. Place the pot on medium heat for 2-3 minutes.
  3. Now beat the mixture until milk begins to froth. (Alternatively, you can use a blender to double the volume quickly)
  4. Add the mixture into espresso or strongly brewed coffee.
  5. Now pour your latte in a coffee mug (you can add ice cubes at the bottom of the mug)
  6. Add as much milk foam as you like in your latte.
  7. Serve chilled.
  8. To take your goth latte game a notch higher, you can add some coconut syrup or a dash of cinnamon powder over the latte.
