The Punisher” has just started streaming season 2 on Netflix. Executive Producer Steve Lightfoot has already told SyFy Wire that season 2 is out in the hope that there will be a call for a third season.

However, as noted by Digital Spy, Netflix has been gradually cancelling Marvel TV content, including “Iron Fist,” “Luke Cage” and “Daredevil.” All that remains is “Jessica Jones” and “The Punisher.” Meanwhile, in season 2 Jon Bernthal, as Frank Castle, continues his shooting rampage without cease.

Wish for season 3 of ‘The Punisher’

Lightfoot said he hopes fans will say they can’t wait for the third season and if they do get there, he says he would be “absolutely delighted.” In fact, the executive producer said he would ideally love to make 10 seasons of the Marvel show.

Jeph Loeb of Marvel TV was quick to say it is not their decision to make and that it will ultimately be up to Netflix to continue “The Punisher,” as it is with all shows on the streaming platform. Loeb said they are “beholden to the network,” and Netflix decides whether or not to continue a series.

Mixed reviews for season 2 of ‘The Punisher’

Since season 2 dropped, while fans love it, many critics have said the new season drags out the storyline from the first season for too long and that producers have merely crammed in more action.

The fact that many Marvel shows have been cancelled on Netflix might be the result of the upcoming competition from the Disney streaming platform.

That platform is more likely to attract a younger viewership than the current superhero shows.

However, speaking of the possible cancellation of “The Punisher,” Lightfoot also said that the decision is up to Netflix, adding that unlike the Film industry, the series will not necessarily be scrapped relating to its performance, stressing that it is down to the streaming network to decide.

‘The Punisher’ is finding his humanity

Speaking of the show itself, Indiewire reports that the most remarkable thing about the series is the way it doesn’t hang on to its rage. The show basically feels angry at the world and its oppressive systems, where innocent people get hit through no fault of their own. Thanks to Frank Castle dealing out his own brand of justice, some good comes of the anger. However, the new season shows Castle as being a little more relaxed and human.
