Matthew Perry of the popular sitcom “Friends” has recently opened up to say he secretly spent a three-month period in hospital after undergoing surgery for a ruptured bowel. The 49-year-old tweeted the news on Friday to say he was still there in hospital.

During August, Perry’s spokeswoman said in a statement that the “Friends” actor had undergone the operation in a Los Angeles hospital. She went on to thank everyone for their concern but asked for privacy for the actor as he heals from the operation.

After spending three months in a hospital bed, Matthew headed to Twitter to announce that he was still there.

The Evening Standard reports that a ruptured bowel, otherwise known as a gastrointestinal perforation, can happen anywhere along the gastrointestinal tract wall, including the small and large intestine and the stomach. Symptoms of a ruptured bowel include severe abdominal pain.

Fame as Chandler Bing in ‘Friends’

Matthew became famous in the 1990s American series “Friends” while playing the character Chandler Bing. Other stars in the sitcom included Courteney Cox (as Monica Gellar), Jennifer Aniston (as Rachel Green), Matt LeBlanc (as Joey Tribbiani), Lisa Kudrow (as Phoebe Buffay-Hannigan) and David Schwimmer (Ross Geller).

While the sitcom ended in 2004, all 10 seasons of “Friends” are now streaming on Netflix, making fans of the series extremely happy.

Reboot of 'Friends' likely won't happen

Jennifer Aniston recently said how much she would like to rebootFriends,” but LeBlanc was reportedly dead against the idea, while Yahoo!

News reports that Perry said he wouldn’t want to see a reboot of the popular sitcom, as he believed that would spoil the ending of the series.

However, Aniston had said it is a fantasy of hers to see “Friends” revived as a reboot, and reportedly two of her co-stars, Cox and Kudrow were with her on the idea.

She figured if “Murphy Brown,” “Seinfeld” and (however briefly) “Roseanne” could be rebooted, why not have the same for “Friends?” Aniston said she knew LeBlanc was against the idea but figured she and the other two ladies could talk him into doing it. However, Matt believes that by now, all the friends would have “moved on,” making a storyline almost impossible.

Jennifer ended up joking that if they left the idea for a while, she could join Lisa and Courteney in a reboot of yet another popular sitcom, “The Golden Girls,” spending their last few years together in wicker furniture. Maybe Matthew could visit them once he is out of the hospital.
