Battle Chasers: Nightwar” is based on the “Battle Chasers” comic book series by Joe Madureira. The game is a continuation of the original comic book story and includes many of the characters and locations from the source material.

The game was met with mostly positive reviews as critics praised the game’s visual style and graphics, but felt that there was a lot of level grinding and a lack of difficulty balance. The game was kickstarted in October 2015 and raised $856,354 throughout the funding campaign.

Other Joe Madureira creations

Madureira was also the Creative Director at THQ and help develop the original “Darksiders” game including designing the characters and settings. He has also worked on several other comic books including “Uncanny X-Men,” “Deadpool,” and “Inhuman,” all for Marvel.

It joins the growing catalogue of games available on the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo’s latest console is certainly not suffering from the same issues as the Wii U and has plenty of third and first party support. It joins critically acclaimed titles like “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild,” “Mario Odyssey,” and “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.”

Inspirations for 'Battle Chasers: Nightwar'

The game takes inspiration from classic JRPGs like “Final Fantasy” and combines them with a Western-style comic book aesthetic.

Players can choose from six available characters from across the “Battle Chasers” comic book series. Each hero has their own special abilities, items and skills.

The turn-based combat system mixes things up with the inclusion of impressive Battle Bursts. These allow players to overcharge the mana of a character to unleash devastating attacks.

Battles take place throughout randomly-generated dungeons that are loaded with secrets, puzzles and traps.

Battle Chasers: Nightwar” is out now on the Nintendo Switch and is available on the eStop and in boxed editions.
