Jabalpur is located in the Indian State of Madhya Pradesh which is also known as the centre of India by the virtue of its location. Here are some noteworthy tourist places which any visitor must not miss. Jabalpur was the seat of the Gaur dynasty as well as the Kalchuri dynasty.
Bhedaghat or Marble rocks
Bhedaghat is a very important tourist destination of Jabalpur. The serene and majestic Narmada creates a spectacular waterfall known as Dhuadhar which translates as a misty stream in English. After the waterfall, Narmada flows serenely between rocks which are made of marble. The colour of the rocks changes from pink, blue and milky white and can be enjoyed by taking a boat ride which is operated manually. Bhedaghat is situated about 22 km from the city.
Rani Durgawati Museum
Rani Durgawati museum is situated in the heart of the city known as Russel Square. It is a very good place to know the art and the culture of the city. The museum contains ancient relics of the Kalchuri dynasty as well as pictures and relics related to the Congress Convention which took place 1939 and was attended by the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.
Rani Avanti Bai Sagar Dam or Bargi Dam
Bargi Dam is a multipurpose Dam which was made on the Narmada River to provide both irrigations as well as power generation. The Dam is located about 40 kilometres from the city. It is a perfect tourist attraction and is well connected by Bus as well as trains. Tourists can also avail the joy of a luxury cruise which is held in the huge water reservoir created by the dam.
Chausat Yogini Mandir or the Temple of 64 Yoginis
Located near Bhedaghat is the Chausat Yogini Mandir and the outer walls of the temple has the statues of 64 Yoginis. The temple also affords a clear and spectacular Narmada river flowing through the Marble Rocks.
Rani Durgawati Fort and balancing rocks
Rani Durgawati fort is the fort built during the era of Rani Durgawati who was a Kalchuri Queen who ruled the region from 1550 until 1564. She made numerous forts, and the Madan Mahal or Rani Durgawati Fort is one of them. On the way to the fort is a strange feat of nature known as balancing rock and must be seen to be fully appreciated.
