Strong tremors felt in Delhi-NCR; epicenter in Haryana

People in Delhi and adjoining areas were distressed by a 5.0 magnitude earthquake early today.

New Delhi: Today (JUNE 2) At very early morning around 4.30 am all Delhi ties spooked with strong tremors of an earthquake. This quivering rude jolt shocked all the peoples in Delhi, and adjoining areas of the National Capital Region (NCR). It happened on Friday morning, and persisted for about one minute around Delhi and other neighboring areas of the Capital City.

The duration of the earthquake was about one minute but it was so sturdy, people said it was strong enough to wake them up.

People were so panicked with the situation they shared their experience on social media. “RT if you came to Twitter just to confirm if that was an #Earthquake! #Delhi Gurgaon,” a Twitter user tweets.

Another user wrote When you are awake at this time of the night and your bed trembles. Delhi #earthquake,” Neha Tekriwal, another Twitter user tweets.

The US Geological Survey reported that the earthquake measured 4.9 on the Richter scale. The epicenter of the earthquake was in Gohana, Haryana. The earthquake tremors were felt twice across Delhi Ncr and parts of north India.

The epicenter of the first quake, measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale, was Rohtak district in Haryana, said the Center for Seismology under the India Meteorological Department, reported the Press Trust of India.

The USGS said that the epicenter was at a depth of 30 km.

It started from the national capital and Haryana region. Haryana is 13 km South East from the Bawal region and very near to Rewari district.

The second tremor hit around 8:15 am with a 3.2 intensity at the depth of 10km.

There are still no news of any causalities reported as of now.

As Experts had warned before, after the Devastating earthquake in Nepal 2015 tremor would hit North India soon. Nepal was devastated by a magnitude 7.9 quake on April 25, 2015.

History of Uttarakhand and the northern Himalayan region have witnessed several high and medium intensity tremors in the recent past. In Past also 5.8 magnitude earthquake rattled Uttarakhand and Delhi NCR regions on (February 6).

It was earlier indicated last year by Union Home Ministry's disaster management wing that this gigantic disaster 8.2 magnitudes might hit the Himalayas soon, and it will affect the whole North India. Experts believe that after so many hits recently, there is a strong possiibility of multiple earthquakes occuring in the future.
