The technological innovations are the most desirable thing in the IT world. Many users think that the technology development is growing at a slower rate than it should. In the past 7 years, we haven't really seen any big changes in the IT world such as iPhone, iPad, Android operating system and so on. Could we perhaps see something at Ces in more recent days which build on the success of some of the things mentioned?

What is CES?

The Consumer Electronics Show is organized every year in January and takes place is Las Vegas. The CES has a long history dating back all the way back to 1967 and is still running strong.

We could expect to see presentations based on previous products/technologies such as:

  • Digital Audio Technology (1990) - The Digital Audio Technology converts an analogue signal to a digital signal and is used in most devices with an audio system.
  • Microsoft Xbox (2001) - Who doesn't know about Xbox? Console games are still popular and a console has changed the game market.
  • Blu-Ray DVD (2003) - Blu-Ray disowned a simple DVD and it's a standard now.
  • OLED technology (2008) - A much better system for displaying content on the screen.
  • 3D Printers (2014) - 3D printers give an opportunity to print a 3D object but hasn't been very popular because of the high charge of materials and printers.
  • 4K UHD (2015) - It's a new high resolution, using mainly in TVs.

What do you remember from CES in 2017?

Did you remember what LG Signature W, FF 91, Razer Valerie, LG PJ9 or Dell Latitude 7285 are?

These devices were considered to be the most innovative but unfortunately, none of them has or will become popular. Why? Because we have enough comfortable devices as it is and don't need a levitating speaker, laptop with multi-screens or inductive charging. What we do need are innovations which help us with our daily problems, for example, a problem with charging batteries.

What was presented this year?

Of course, there were many products designed by some of the biggest IT companies, but I'm afraid that these products will be forgotten in a matter of weeks. The problem, however, doesn't lie with CES and other shows, but generally, it's becoming harder for the company to stand out from the competition.

Some of the bigger companies like Apple, Microsoft, Google who use their gained success to develop their platforms more, rather than creating completely new products. But if we were to compare this to the smaller companies who have yet to build their reputation and income slowly by creating good quality products which we already know!

So basically, nothing changed! We've got the same problems like before the Consumer Electronics Show - It is the best summary of CES in 2018.
