juventus are showing a keen interest in Liverpool's German midfielder Emre Can and the Serie A side is hoping to finalise a deal in the January window in an attempt to fend off other clubs looking to acquire the service's of Can.

Liverpool could lose Can on a free

Can will be out of contract at the end of this season and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp could lose the midfielder on a free transfer if a new deal isn't agreed before that time. If Juventus fail to sign the German in January and if Can doesn't agree to stay with the Reds, it will become an auction-type sale with a number of top European clubs eyeing up a possible move.

Real Madrid and Can's former club Bayern Munich are keeping tabs on the situation and are likely to make a move next summer - if not before. However, Klopp, according to the Mirror, is determined to keep Can at Anfield and insists the club needs to be 'as attractive as possible' and he desperately wants Can to continue his career at Liverpool.

Can's role at Anfield

The former Bayer Leverkusen midfielder signed for Liverpool in 2014 and has solidified his place in the side with his strong defensive mindset and also the versatility to play as part of a back-four defence as well as his preferred midfield role.

Liverpool clearly has some problems in the side at the moment - mainly in defence - but the midfield looks to be pretty solid, along with the forward line.

Can usually plays as part of a midfield-three with Philippe Coutinho, Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum. However, with the ever-present James Milner in the squad and also Adam Lallana returning from injury, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if Klopp was to fail in keeping Can at the club.

Liverpool has other worries regarding departures at the club with star play-maker Philippe Coutinho's desire to join Barcelona and also, more recently, Mohamed Salah topping the transfer list of fellow La Liga side Real Madrid.

A potential contract renewal

Talks between the club and Can have come to a firm halt and it's been the case for some time now - the details regarding Can's reluctance to renew his contract are still unclear but Klopp will surely do everything in his power to retain the star.

Can's contract renewal seems an easy problem to fix but underlying concerns for Can behind closed doors could be an issue that we're not aware of. Either way, the German manager will soon be sitting down with Can and his representatives to discuss new contract terms in an attempt to keep him at the club.
