December 6, 2017, the day when the 2017/18 Champions League group stage was concluded and we got to know the sixteen teams that guaranteed their presence in the last 16 of the competition and the eight teams that go on to the UEFA Europa League. Contrary to what has been customary in recent times, it was England to qualify more teams for the round of 16, five in total, out of which five, four won their groups. Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham finished first in their groups while Chelsea was second in Group C.

Spain has qualified three teams, the current European champions, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Sevilla.

Italy qualified two teams for the next round, Juventus and Roma. The remaining six qualified teams come from six different countries, FC Porto from Portugal, Besiktas from Turkey, Paris Saint-Germain from France, Bayern Munich from Germany, Shakhtar Donetsk from Ukraine and Basel from Switzerland.

The draw for the last 16 will be held next Monday, December 11 at 11:00 a.m. and the conditions for the drawing are similar to the ones that we've seen in previous seasons. Group winners are in pot 1 and the second-placed from each group are in pot 2. Teams from the same country or who have met in the group stage will not be able to play among themselves in these round of 16 of the Champions League 2017 / 18.

To Europa League go the eight teams that finished in third place from each group, four of them will be included in pot 1 of the draw of the round of 32 of this competition. Those four teams are Sporting Lisbon from Portugal, CSKA Moscow from Russia, Red Bull Leipzig from Germany and Atletico Madrid from Spain. The remaining four teams are Russia's Spartak of Moscow, Napoli from Italy, Borussia Dortmund from Germany and Celtic from Scotland.

The draw will also take place next Monday, December 11 at 12:00 p.m. Like it happens in Champions League, teams from the same country or who have met in the group stage will not be able to play among themselves.
