Manchester United have on this occasion come out with a 1 home goal advantage against Celta Vigo, with the game concluding Celta Vigo 0 Manchester United 1. The goal came from a free kick taken by Marcus Rashford at the 67th minute. Rashford got that free kick after he was fouled close to the right Celta penalty area.

His free kick was a splendid shot, which seems to have come from lots of practice as Jose Mourinho stated that Rashford spends 30 minutes after team practice to practice taking free kicks. When asked about the youngster's calmness, responsibility, and quality of the shot compared to his age, the United manager said the young striker (19 years old) loves football and more importantly he stated "It's not age, it's the quality." that matters.

Mourinho, while talking about the game itself said that he was very pleased with his team's performance but not pleased with the results. He was referring to the missed United chances in the game. With Lingard, Mkhitaryan, and Rashford's earlier chances in the game stopped by Celta goalkeeper Sergio Alvarez, who was in top form tonight, it more than enough to earn the man of the match for the Celta Viga side.

United would have loved to score more goals so as to buffer the United team against their second leg clash at Old Trafford this Thursday at 20:05 BST against Celta Viga. Celta Viga also had some attempts on goal coming from Daniel Wass and former Liverpool player Lago Aspas who both headed wide and Pione Sisto had a deflected shot which United backup keeper Sergio Romero saved in the second half, adding to his clean sheets.

Manchester United never won a Europa League

This is Manchester United's first European semi-final in 6 years and if they progress they will get to face Ajax or Lyon in a Europe League final to be held in Stockholm on May 24th. United have however never won a Europa League final, something they must be keen to change this time around if they get the chance.

In the Premier League United are not in the top four. A top four place guarantees a chance to play in the Champions League, a chance that United want to secure if not by a top four place then by a Europa League win. They are number 5 in the Premier League 1 point behind Manchester City, and 4 points behind third place rival Liverpool.

The Europa League provides a great chance to the United side's Champions League ambitions.

Manchester United has won three Champion League cups and came out second place on two occasions most recently in 2011 against Barcelona who scored 3 goals to United's 1.

Injury updates

Ashley Young who came in as a substitute in the second half, after deflecting a pass meant for goal, seemed to have suffered a hamstring injury barely 10 minuted after getting into the game and had to be subbed, with Centre-back Chris Smalling coming in for him.

Chris Smalling himself hasn't played due to injury since March 19th because of a knee injury. Goal Scorer Marcus Rashford also got subbed late in the game and made way for Antony Martial.

He has a possible knee injury though Mourinho said that he came into the game with a slight injury and believes he will be okay for the matches ahead.
