Wayne Rooney became Manchester United's all-time top scorer in European competitions with 39 goals as they beat Dutch side Feyenoord 4-0 at Old Trafford on Thursday in their Europa League group stage clash.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan was handed a start by Jose Mourinho who rested David de Gea and Ander Herrera keeping the weekend's Premier League fixture against West Ham United. United opened the scoring through Wayne Rooney who capped off an excellent finish past former Liverpool custodian Brad Jones after being set up by Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Rooney then set up Juan Mata who doubled United's lead before Ibrahimovic forced an own goal from Jones and Jesse Lingard scored from a fantastic long range effort coming off the bench to round up a comfortable 4-0 win for the Red Devils.

Sergio Romero who started the game ahead of De Gea made a couple of decent saves in the first half but otherwise remained untroubled by the unimaginative Feyenoord attack.
