In this era of Premier League football, teams are spending whatever it takes to snap up the best players around the world, but with so much talent on show week in week out, who truly is the best?

Yaya Toure

Yaya Toure joined Manchester City in 2010 for a fee of £24 million. At that time, the 32 year old was a holding midfielder for Barcelona and a lot of people saw the signing as a bizarre one as City had Nigel de Jong, Gareth Barry and Patrick Viera playing that position. To the surprise of many, Roberto Mancini deployed Toure in a more attacking role and it suited the Ivorian perfectly.

Toure has played 228 games for the citizens and scored 66 goals. During his time at City the midfielder has won the Premier League twice, the FA Cup once, the League Cup once and the Community Shield once. In the 13/14 season Toure was named Manchester City's player of the year and he has been named in the PFA Team of the Year twice.

David Silva

In 2010 Manchester City signed David Silva from Valencia for a fee of £26 million. After Silva completed his move to the blue half of Manchester, the Spaniard flew out to South Africa with the rest of the Spain squad to compete in the World Cup. Spain went on to win the World Cup but Silva played a substitute role throughout the competition. In his first season with City the 29 year old helped the club finish third in the league.

Since then Spaniard has gone on to make 231 appearances, score 40 goals, win two Premier League titles and win the FA Cup, League Cup and Community Shield once.

Christian Eriksen

After the sale of Gareth Bale in the summer of 2013, Tottenham Hotspur spent in excess of £100 million on seven players. Out of the seven players, only one stood out and proved his worth to the team, Christian Eriksen.

Tottenham bought the 23 year old Dane from Dutch giants Ajax for a fee of £11 million and in his first season Eriksen was named as the clubs player of the year. Eriksen has played 91 games and scored 24 goals for spurs. Although the midfielder hasn't won any honours with the North East London club, the Dane is still one of the best players in the Premier League and he is arguably the best free kick taker in the League.

Mesut Ozil

In September of 2013, Arsenal broke their record transfer fee by signing Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid for a fee of £42.4 million. The 26 year old German arrived at the Emirates with a lot of expectation surrounding him, with Arsenal fans hoping he would be the one to push the gunners over the last hurdle and win the premier league. Ozil has made 81 appearances for Arsenal, scored 13 goals and got 22 assists. During his time at Arsenal Ozil has won the FA Cup twice and the Community Shield.

In my personal opinion, it's between Eriksen and Ozil for the best midfielder in the league. Yes, they haven't won as much as Toure and Silva, but based on technical ability alone Eriksen and Ozil are up there with the best in the world. Who do you think isthe best middlefielder in the League?
