Arsenal could look to secure the signature of Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski, according to the Daily Mail. The north London club reportedly made an enquiry for the Polish striker in the summer transfer window, but were quickly rebuffed as Bayern Munich made it clear that they were unwilling to sell him. This summer, the Gunners were strongly linked with Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema; however, the striker made it very clear that he wanted stay at the Madrid based club. Lewandowski was also subject to interest from title rivals Manchester United who eventually spent £36million to buy the French youngster Anthony Martial.

Arsenal fans will be hoping that the clubcan make a deal to bring the striker to the emirates as he is considered one of the best in his position playing today.

Robert Lewandowski impressed football fans worldwide this week during Die Roten’s match with Wolfsburg when the home team were one goal down and he came off the bench to score five goals in nine minutes. Lewandowski helped Bayern claim a 5-1 victory over Wolfsburg but could still be deemed surplus to manager Pep Guardiola’s requirements. Guardiola has been known not to use traditional no. 9’s in his formations, but rather preferring the abilities of a false no. 9 as they are better suited towards contributing to the passing style of football that he employs.

There doesn’t seem to be any problems between the manager and the player but it is assumed that he isn’t the type of player the Guardiola would look to put in his team.

Arsenal have struggled with the striker position for a few years now and currently they use Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott in those positions. Fans are frustrated with the club's striking options as they feel Giroud isn’t of the quality needed for title chasing team and Theo Walcott isn’t a striker.

At the end of the transfer window, Arsenal fans were frustrated by Arsene Wenger’s failure to sign a striker, given that he was aware that Danny Welbeck would face a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Should Arsenal manage to follow up on their Lewandowski interest and acquire him then it would put them in a strong position to challenge for the title.
