Manchester United are believed to be on the verge of signing wonderkid Memphis Depay after it was confirmed PSV Eindhoven will cash in on the 20-year-old ahead of the January transfer window.

Depay is regarded as one of the hottest young talents in European Football after impressing for the Netherlands during the summer at the World Cup in Brazil, where he netted goals against Group B rivals Australia and Chile.

Since then, former Dutch boss Louis van Gaal has kept his eyes on the winger with reports suggesting he is interested in forming a reunion at Old Trafford due to the disappointing form of Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young.

And van Gaal's chances of landing Depay have taken a step in the right direction after PSV manager Phillip Cocu admitted that the winger will depart from the Phillips Stadion, the Metro reports.

"Of course Memphis will be sold, you can't stop that but it's okay," he said.

The news will come as a massive disappointment for PSV supporters as Depay's current form has led the club to first place in the Eredivisie ahead of last season's champions and arch rivals Ajax.

In contrast, United fans could soon be celebrating the arrival of a serious prospect considering many journalists and pundits across Europe have compared Depay to Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Red Devils are expected to make a move worth £18million with van Gaal also said to be considering several defensive players including Mats Hummels and Raphael Varane to solve this crisis at the back.
