The Chainsmokers 'Closer'

The American duo's single 'Closer; featuring singer-songwriter Halsey, has been in the charts for a record 27 weeks. beating Avicii's 'Wake Me Up'. 'Closer' breaks the record for the most weeks at number 1 on the Billboards Hot Dance/Electronic songs chart.

The previous record held by Swedish musician and DJ Avicii stayed in the charts for 26 weeks between 2013 and 2014. In a statement by Nielsen music their number one Hit Single 'Closer' has earned has sold a staggering 34,000 downloads in the tracking week, which is a huge record.

The video itself has also received over 100 million views on YouTube.

'Closer' previously debuted in the top 10, back in August and have since remained within it. As a result of their huge success, the song has been recognised for being one of the top biggest tunes of 2016, along with Calvin Harris' and Rihanna's 'This Is What You Came For; and Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson's incredible 'Uptown Funk!'

The Chainsmokers music success

The Chainsmokers first rose to success five years ago, in 2012 as a DJ Duo. Its members include Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart who described their musical style as "blurring the lines between indie, pop music, dance music and Hip-hop

And the boys did not stop there! There most recent single 'Paris', released earlier in January' peaked at number 5 in the UK charts, and number 7 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

The song has also performed well around the world.

The pair recently gave their debut performance with the lead singer of Coldplay, Chris Martin, with 'Something Just Like Us,' which they sang live at The Brit Awards on February 22, 2017, at London's 02 Arena.

They have both gone on to win a number of awards including the American Music Awards, NRJ Music Awards and the world's most favourite yearly music event, 'The Grammy's', where they won Best New Artist, Best Dance Recording, and Best Pop/Duo as well as Group Performance with summer single 'Don't Let Me Down' featuring English singer-songwriter Dua Lipa.
