Downton Abbey, which opened in 2010 on ITV and was successful, not only at home but also all over the world, announced their end after the 6th season which, like the previous ones, will debut in September. The TVLine website announced the news, with the explanation that the contracts of most actors are going to finish and they also want to explore new projects.

Before that, Maggie Smith, the veteran actress who plays Violet Crawley, age 80, had communicated her desire to leave the series. According to the actress it doesn't make sense to do another season, as her character,Violet Crawley should have now almost 110 years.

Last in the 20th century, Downton Abbey focuses on the lives of the Crawley's, an aristocratic family with many employees, in a period of history marked by several events such as the sinking of the Titanic, World War I and the Spanish flu of 1918.

After saying goodbye to Sybil, the youngest daughter of Crawley, who died from complications while giving birth to their first child; we lost Matthew, the husband of Mary, in a car accident; and said goodbye to Isis, the beloved dog of Lord Grantham, it remains only one more season to say definitely goodbye to the whole family and, of course, of Carson, Mrs. Hughes, Mrs. Patmore, Daisy, Mr. Bates, Anna and Thomas.

Winner of three Golden Globes, including Best Mini-Series in 2012, Downton Abbey has been praised by the British royal family. Indeed, Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, came to visit the recording studio, where the 6th season was being filmed.

For this last farewell season, we have nine new episodes, including a Christmas special - issued on 25th of December - many surprises and maybe new special guests, after the Australian actress Cate Blanchett had shown interest to appear in the series.

However, while we wait for the premiere of the final season and expect to know if Mary will choose a new suitor and Edith will finally find luck in love, we can catch up with at least one family member. Lily James, who plays the always lively Lady Rose MacClare in the series, can currently be seen in the movie Cinderella, which counteracts precisely with Cate Blanchett and Richard Madden, from the Game of Thrones series.
