The Vampire Diaries' fans are excited about the fact that Ian Somerhalder, the star of the series, will direct an episode in the next season of the show. The 36-year-old actor revealed it through the social network Instagram, posting a a caption of the script page. "This is pretty cool too... Who is directing the next episode? On set with him right now;) Thank you to all involved in the decision-making process for giving me the opportunity to do this-I am so grateful". He added he will try not to screw it up.

Season 6 of The Vampire Diaries will be aired in 2015 on the CW television network: the show is returning January 22 after a short winter stop.

The episode we are talking about is number 16, co-written by Brian Young and Caroline Dries, titled "The Downward Spiral". This is not the first time in the history of the series that a lead actor is taking up the role of a director. Also Paul Wesley in the recent past directed the episode "Resident Evil" in Season 5 and is set to helm "Woke Up with a Monster".

Fans are always interested in Ian Somerhalder's adventures both in the show (where he portrays the vampire Damon Salvatore) and in real life. After his split with Nina Dobrev (Elena Gilbert in the series) occurred two years ago, in 2013, Ian has had some flirts and is now dating Nikki Reed. According to new rumors, Somerhalder might soon propose to his Twilight girlfriend, as he's been seen shopping in a famous jewelry store in Los Angeles.

In the meanwhile, Nina Dobrev is reportedly dating Chris Wood, also in the cast of TVD. According to latest reports from the magazine Celebrity Dirty Laundry, Ian and Nina have asked The Vampire Diaries producers to give them less screen space in the show together. "It's next to impossible to fake chemistry with someone you hate" the report said. On the contrary, spoilers about the upcoming season of the popular show say Elena and Damon are set to go through a honeymoon stage. Will this rumor be true? We'll know in less than a month.
