So you have decided that you want to do an #Internship in #Germany? Congratulations! You're one step ahead on your professional career.

You might be having a big question in your mind... How do I get this job?

Define the plan

What do you want to do? What are you looking for? These are key questions that need to be answered before starting your search so that your search is more accurate! Why are you looking for an internship? Is it to enrich your CV or is it just for fun? It is important to know that in Germany and as an international student one can't have a full-time position until the final thesis is finished. So, taking this into consideration the best thing to can do as an international student in Germany is an internship or be a working student.

Select companies you're interested in

The next step is to define which companies to target. If nothing comes to your mind, it's also good to at least select an industry that you're interested in. If you're still uncertain... then at least decide where you don't want to work. This information will at least give an idea of companies where not to apply.

Make your CV and cover letter

After all the thinking and planning, it's time to start doing! There are plenty of web pages in which one can get different advises on how to make your CV. I would recommend to look in Google or any other search engine for some CVs that have already been made related to your profession so that you can have an initial idea on how to make it.

It's really important to tailor your CV to make it match as much as possible to the position you're applying to... But, we'll get to that soon! Most applications also request for a cover letter in which basically it's written in your own words, why is it that the position is for you. Make this letter as simple as possible... use your own words!.

Start looking for the internship

By this point you have already selected the type of companies in which you're interested in working (or not) and you have made your CV and cover letter. So there's nothing left to do than to start looking for the suited available positions for you.

Apply

Now it’s time to apply and there are several things you need to know before starting. First of all it’s important to know that not all the processes are the same. So, you need to be patient and read all of the instructions so that you can make sure that you’re doing it right!

It’s always good to create a folder in your PC in which you save all the relevant documents that you will need to apply: CV, cover letter, reference letters, certificates) I can assure you that this will save you a lot of time and effort when you’re applying for plenty of positions. And after you send the application you just need to wait for the answer of the company. Usually you’ll get an email confirming that the company got your application and that they will get back to you as soon as they have an answer. After that, it’s just a matter of time until you know if you have been asked for an interview or not.

So you see… It’s not a complicated process… You just need to be organized and be persistent!

Try applying and good luck!
