‘Game of Thrones’ is one of the most popular TV shows of all time. It is a worldwide event when a new season premieres and has captivated millions of viewers across the world. It is both shocking and ambitious in its storytelling and, sadly, it is coming to the end. We have had six seasons so far and only have two more to go.

Indeed, we can go further and say that we only have 13 more episodes to go and speculation is rife about whether there will be prequel's/spin-off's that will be set in the same universe as 'game of thrones'. There is a lot of potential for spin-off series', as there is so much rich lore and history in George R.

R. Martin's realm. So let’s take a look at the shows that HBO could make in the future.

Robert’s Rebellion

An obvious choice for a spin-off series, though not necessarily the best, would focus on Robert Baratheon’s rebellion against the Targaryens. This is the conflict that helped to establish the ‘Game of Thrones’ story we know and love. We have seen glimpses of it in flashbacks and there is a lot of discussion from fans to have this story fully told as it is a very interesting and layered event.

Aegon’s Conquest

Seeing how the Targaryens conquered Westeros, united the Seven Kingdoms and established the Iron Throne would be a fascinating story to tell. Certainly, a show based on this story would expand the lore and enrich our knowledge and appreciation of 'Game of Thrones'.

Yet, the biggest reason why this story would be a frontrunner to become a TV show is due to the fact that dragons were the biggest reason why the Targaryens successfully took over Westeros. To see this conflict brought to life has the potential to be a ground-breaking, unforgettable event in the world of television because...you know...

dragons!

The War of the Children and the First Men

This would be a show about the conflict which, essentially, started everything. Indeed, this war is where the Starks claim their heritage and everything we know about Game of Thrones today stems from this event. Moreover, as we saw in Season 6 of 'Game of Thrones', Westeros is still feeling the effects of this event.

This is because the Children of the Forest ultimately created the White Walkers to combat the First Men and, going forward, the White Walkers would be the primary focus of the main series. As well as linking in to the main series, another reason why basing a show on this event would be a good idea is because it can lead straight into another show based on....

The Long Night

The Long Night is a myth to many within Westeros. In fact, Old Nan even tells Bran the story of The Long Night in Season 1 of 'Game of Thrones' in an attempt to scare him rather than educate him about a historical event. This potential series would showcase the first coming of the White Walkers and the First Men allying themselves with the Children of the Forest to defeat this deadly threat.

Within this show, we would see the birth of the Night’s Watch and the creation of The Wall which are pivotal moments and it would nicely link to the main series.

Other stories in the lore of 'Game of Thrones' that could become prequel/spin-off shows include the Dance of the Dragons, the Blackfyre Rebellions and the reign of Maegor the Cruel. Evidently, there are many stories that HBO can tell and they would be mad not to at least consider the possibility of continuing their flagship property in the form of prequels/spin-off’s.
