Bollywood has been making some smart choices recently and has come to realize that the release date of each movie can tremendously affect its business at the box office . Reports claim that Sanjay Leela Bhansali is planning to push the release date of his magnum opus "Bajirao Mastani" to 2016 instead of releasing it with Rohit Shetty's "Dilwale" which is creating huge waves already.
Earlier reports claimed that Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone star "Bajirao Mastani" was going to clash with Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone Film "Dilwale" at the box office in December 2015, but the news that Bajirao Mastani may change its date goes to show the understanding of the business as far as Mr Bhansali is concerned.
It is not a secret that had the clash taken place it would have affected the sales of both the movies since the audience would have been divided. Thus changing the date totally makes sense. Many hope the clash doesn't happen but Mr. Bhansali is yet to give an official statement on the same.
Shahrukh and Kajol will be seen sharing the screen for the first time in a Bollywood movie after an interval of five years, so the plethora of emotions and hysteria surrounding Dilwale is huge. It's fair to postpone Bajirai Mastani's release so it may receive its own clear share of excitement.
This is not the first time that Sanjay Leela Bhansali's movie clashed with a Shahrukh movie. In 2007 his romance saga and Ranbir Kapoor's debut movie "Saawariya" released against Shahrukh's "Om Shanti Om" and we all know OSO took over the box office in blink of an eye.
Bajirao Mastani, if pushed to 2016, could see a solo dream release.
While Christmas is usually Amir Khan's slot, who's December big hits include PK and Dhoom 3, this year there is no Amir Khan movie releasing on or around Christmas so the slot is open for other biggies to make the most of it. While Sanjay Leela Bhansali had locked the release date beforehand, it is Rohit Shetty who recently announced "Dilwale" release date as December 18th 2015, thus forming the clash. We will have to wait and watch if Sanjay Leela Bhansali does indeed push the release date of Bajirao Mastani or if Bollywood's due for another epic box office clash.
